Eco Island will apply the best learning from the economic and social sciences, as well as the best of new and old technologies. This part of Eco Island will illustrate some of the work that is going on or has been achieved.
The University of Southampton has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Isle of Wight Council and the Island Strategic Partnership. This provides the strategic framework for a programme of close working on a range of projects, which all focus on improving the Island’s sustainability. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at a ceremony at the University on 15 May 2008 and be found by clicking here..
Many of the University’s different Schools with interests in the Island,s economic, social and environmental future, will feature in the joint programme of work.
For example, the University's National Oceanography Centre will be involved in the joint working and their websiore can be found by clicking here. The Centre also involves young people and schools through educational programmes, more information on this can be found by clicking here.
Links to more information about Southampton University's involvement in Eco island will be posetd here as the project develops.
