UP2U Fund

Welcome to UP2U, the Isle of Wight’s

participatory budgeting pilot.

Pictures of the Event can be viewed here

UP2U is about giving local people more control over spending some Government money here on the Island.

Our 2009 project wants to help young people in Freshwater and Totland eat well and enjoy healthy lifestyles.  UP2U is inviting young people from these two places to apply for a share in £20,000 of Government money (from the Isle of Wight Council and the NHS Isle of Wight).  Young people can get together to bid for a share of this money.  They will use this money to do something that will help young people aged 5 to 19 to eat healthily and take enough exercise every day.  We need your good ideas, so get together with your friends and see what you could do, to get a share of the money - The deadline is 23rd December 2009, so get on with it!

We hope you will find this page useful and easy to use – if you need more information, email the UP2U project manager astrid.davies@iow.gov.uk

The Department for Communities and Local Government, is sponsoring this project as one of only four projects across England and Wales, looking at this sort of decision-making about money in rural areas.  This work is linked to the national Participatory Budgeting Unit – they are backing our scheme.  The Unit has a website which can explain a lot about who is doing what with Participatory Budgeting around the country.  Click here to find out more background on our project.
