Ensuring an Environment for a Thriving Third Sector on the Island

The Island Strategic Partnership (ISP) is supporting the development of a new strategy that will strengthen Island communities. The strategy will ensurie that we work together to create the conditions for local voluntary, not for profit and community groups (the 'third sector') to make the fullest possible contribution to Eco Island.

The ISP partners have also agreed that ensuring the right environment for a thriving third sector on the Island is an objective that is important enough to include in the 2008 Local Area Agreement. This will involve the ISP partners and the government agreeing some stretching improvement targets that will evidence a more thriving third sector between 2008 and 2010.

A Compact Strategy Group is leading the development of a strategy and a revitalised Local Compact. The group is  comprised of very senior representatives of: the Isle of Wight Council, the Voluntary Sector Cabinet, the Isle of Wight NHS Primary Care Trust and the Isle of Wight Rural Community Council.

Have your say

During the summer of 2008, a wide ranging consultation on proposals suggested by the Compacxt Strategy Group is taking place. This is intended to ensure that in the autumn of 2008, the strongest possible strategy is in place for developing the voluntary and community sector's Eco Island role.

A copy of a consultation document, setting out a number of ideas and proposals is available. We want to hear your views on what is needed.

A consultation document that includes full details on how to respond or be involved in the consultation, is available to download in .pdf format by clicking here.
