The safer and stronger key delivery partnership is currently governed by the body acting as the Isle of Wight Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership. The wider remit of the safer and stronger partnership will be managed though this Board, responsible to the ISP Board for delivery of the safer and well kept theme of Eco Island.
The Partnership Strategy Group comprises of representatives from; Isle of Wight Council including the Chief Executive, Director of Environment and Neighbourhoods and the Chief Fire Officer, Other members include the Islands Chief Police Officer, The Islands NHS, the Voluntary and Community Sector and elected Council members.
The partnership has a number of specialist groups that look at specific issues, making the partnership quick to respond to challenges and making plans. These groups look at strategy, performance, co-ordination of activity, communications and a number of delivery groups that focus on particular issues or neighbourhoods.
Community and voluntary groups are involved via their representation in a Partnership Strategy Group and in other ways through taking part in a variety of action groups and specific projects run by the Partnership. Partners also have a range of consultations and regular contacts with communities and parishes, schools and important groups and organisations including voluntary and community interest groups. This is an important element in the improvement of the public realm.
Public interest and scrutiny is represented in the Partnership Strategy Group by the Isle of Wight Council Cabinet Member for Safer Communities.
The partnership will hold ‘Face the People’ sessions at least once a year, based on previous and current public involvement events. These meetings would be attended by partnership representatives who hold a senior position within each organisation.
‘Face the People’ sessions provide an opportunity to listen to community concerns, inform communities about action taken in response to local priorities and engage the community in action to tackle local problems.
In addition to this, a number of community engagement events will be organised across the Island to ensure that the partnership consults its communities about community safety issues in their area and also about what priorities the partnership should tackle.
The Partnership’s Performance Group will monitor performance of the Partnership and ensure that Eco Island and other key targets such as those in the Local Area Agreement and other key statutory plans assigned to the Partnership are being met. This monitoring also identifies and remove any barriers or blockages to performance identified by the delivery and action Groups.
The Partnership’s Performance Group will use a consistent set of national indicators and APACS (stands for Assessments of Policing and Community Safety) and the National Standards/Hallmarks of Effective Partnerships as a performance management framework for the Partnership. The Partnership Performance Group will further develop this framework to ensure it adequately supports Eco Island and other local objectives.
Through the safe and well kept Island theme, Eco Island will deliver:
-strong, sustainable communities on the Isle of Wight;
- all agencies and communities working together and dealing effectively with crime and disorder;
- an Isle of Wight that is one of the safest places in the UK where people are living in a well-kept Eco environment and are able to be active citizens taking part fully in all aspects of Island life.
- an Island where people and businesses can get about safely with an increasing use of sustainable and carbon sensitive transport.
The safer and stronger key delivery partnership values and celebrates the diversity of people on our Island. It recognises the role of the ISP’s vision of being an Island which promotes and supports a safe and superb environment that will allow the Island to thrive.
