Eco Island will inspire and support a number of events that will inform and involve residents, visitors, communities and businesses. Information about these events will be posted here; keep checking back.
In addition to the annual Eco Island conference, there will be an annual community event, titled the Big Green Picnic www.iwight.com/biggreenpicnic/ which will explain what Eco Island means for Island residents – and what they can do to improve the Island’s future.
The Big Green Picnic will be a regular three-day community event; the first one is due to be held 24-26 May 2008 at Church Litten, Newport. This will offer the public opportunities to see how everyone can make a commitment to change and, by making those changes, make a big difference to the sustainability of the whole Island.
This event will show how everyone has a role to play, with entertainments and displays focusing on renewable energies, recycling, energy and water efficiency and looking after our local neighbourhoods. The Big Green Picnic will be celebrating the Island’s natural opportunities and introducing new lifestyle choices to residents.
The Eco Island vision will be delivered by many hard working public sector managers in the Police, the Health Service and the IW council. It will include a great deal of new thinking and working across organisations, including the Island's voluntary and community sector.
The Island Strategic Partnership and 'Partners through Progress' are arranging a one day confernce that will be held twice to give as many managers as possible from these various organisastions an opportunity to attend.
The conferences bring together up to 250 front-line managers who will be given an opportunity to dioscover what Eco Island means for them and their services. Managers can attend on thne 3rd or the 20th of June 2008.
If you are a public sector middle or front line manager, or are managing people or services in the voluntary and community sector, and you would like to meet with people from a range of organisations that you may already or could be working with, find out more and join the conference by clicking here
The Eco Island Strategy was launched at a conference on 26 March 2008. This conference welcomed over 250 community leaders from the Island, to hear from a range of inspirational and internationally-famous key note speakers on how the future of the Isle of Wight will focus on the theme of sustainability. The conference also welcomed over 250 business leaders from the Island and the rest of the UK, focusing on how to engage business investment in encouraging energy efficiency and environmental awareness.
This event places the Isle of Wight on the world map, in terms of inward investment and renewable technology innovation. The Eco Island Conference will be a regular annual event, to showcase Island businesses and to publicise the progress being made on the Island’s footprint.
