Jobcentre Plus is a large government organisation with over 1000 offices nationally, with two sites on the Isle of Wight.
Jobcentre Plus has a rigorous set of environmental standards and targets as part of it’s Environmental Management System (ERM). This includes recycling large amounts of paper, including confidential documents and the use of energy efficient lighting and IT systems.
Jobcentre Plus offers wide range of services to help people of working age move towards employment or get the financial support they need if they are unable to work. Whilst we offer a face to face service for people on the Island, we can now offer many more services through e-channels.
For example, people looking for information about benefits or job vacancies can use our website, the largest jobs website in Europe. Jobseeker Direct is an-easy-to use telephone service for people looking for work. Our customer contact centres mean people can now claim welfare benefits by phone, further reducing the need to make journeys to and from our offices. The need for paper is being dramatically reduced by these telephone and electronic services.
90% of our customers now receive their payments direct to their bank accounts, further reducing the need to manufacture cheques and payment books.
Jobcentre Plus offers practical help and support for our customers to find work at workshops and support groups. By teaming up with community organisations across the Island, we can reduce the need to hire extra premises. Working in locations such as Children’s Centres helps ensure these buildings are used to capacity, creating efficiencies in heating, lighting and other premises related resources.
Working with the local Primary Care Trust’s Expert Patient Programme, our customers can access healthy living initiatives and support to help to live with, and manage, health conditions with less reliance on medical interventions.
This can help more people enjoy the natural resources which the Isle of Wight offers – its coast and beaches; its hills and countryside.
