The Isle of Wight Police
The Hampshire Constabularies Isle of Wight Operational Command Unit is pleased to be able to contribute to the Eco Island vision. The Island is one of the safest places in the country, working with our partners we intend to continually improve on the current position.
The Islands Police are striving to make policing more accessible and responsive to citizens' needs with Neighbourhood Policing (known on the Island as “Safer Neighbourhoods”) featuring as a key component.
Safer Neighbourhoods aims to achieve:
'The right people, at the right places, in the right numbers in order to create neighbourhoods that are safe and feel safe.'
Successful implementation relies on three key factors:
The Islands Police will continue with their core responsibilities and focus resources in the following areas:
A key element of our plan will be to enhance community cohesion by engaging with local communities, establishing their priorities and problems and working with partners and local people to deal with the issues of most concern. We will be judged not only on crime rates and how we reduce and detect them, but by dealing with the problems identified locally and by how safe people feel.
Officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) allocated to Safer Neighbourhood teams will also be measured on how visible they are in their neighbourhoods.
This all forms part of our plan to return to traditional values and support the Eco Island ethos.
