Requests for Strategic Analyses include:
Autumn 2008/Winter 2008: Small area population data useful for population denominator data to calculate reasonably accurate mortality / other rates.
The requirement is to calculate mortality rates by deprivation, which is measured at Lower Super Output Area level, and for which Lower SOA population data is needed.
IWC Public Health at present calculates crude estimates by applying the 2001 Census gender / age breakdown by ward to the ONS Mid Year Estimates.  This is flawed in that it does not take account of local developments such as house-building.
Hampshire / Portsmouth / Southampton Public Health analysts measure health indicators at sub-LA locality level, based on groups of wards. To enable this work Hants Public Health have access to small area estimates from Hampshire County Council.  The aim of this work is to make IWC data available for similar analyses.
