Eco Island is an ambitious programme of change.
We want organisations and individuals to know as much abouth the Island as possible, so that we can all participate in change. Our Story of place, found by clicking here, gives us a benchmark for recognising change. Information about the Island that was used in developing Eco island is available by clicking here.
Eco Island is an ambitious programme of changes to the way the Island goes about its daily life. What successes should we be looking for? How will we know things are changing?
Eco Island is not about making behind the scenes changes to our lives; we should be able to see change happening. The differences will become obvious. We will attract new firms to the Island, which will bring more jobs. Our children will be achieving higher grades in their qualifications. We will have better roads, cycleways and “greenways” to provide alternatives to car use. We will not have plastic bags littering our countryside. We will have fewer people of all ages with obesity-related illnesses. People will feel better about the place that they live and work in. The Island will start to regain its sense of place and pride because it will simply feel a better place to be.
The ISP will be keeping a close watch on this programme of changes, through its regular monitoring of the Eco Island Action Plan. The ISP Board will meet quarterly. At each meeting, it will receive a monitoring report on the Eco Island Action plan. To begin with, this monitoring report will be made up from progress reports from the many different projects which are the first year of actions and commitments (the promises the ISP has made to residents and investors, so that Eco Island becomes a reality).
All of this work on the Eco Island Action Plan will be co-ordinated by the ISP and project-managed to make sure that all the project work is joined-up. This means that the ISP can keep a very clear eye on progress and make sure that the whole Eco Island plan moves forward in at a proper pace. The Island’s successes will be highlighted and celebrated so that the Eco Island difference can be seen clearly, at every ISP meeting and in the local media.
Every ISP Board meeting will be held in public, and its minutes published on it's dedicated ISP website. That means you will be able to see progress, set out clearly by the ISP, every quarter.
If you want to ask the ISP or its partners organisations a question about Eco Island or the ISP itself, perhaps in person, contact info@eco-island .org.uk and you will be given advice on how best to do this.
In addition, successes and project progress will be published in the local press, to make sure that everyone has a good chance of finding out about our Eco Island progress.
The ISP knows that we can imporove on the sharing of information, and where appropriate with the community and business. We have prepared some information about the Island in downloadable formats. Eco Island needs every citizen and business to have information about the challenges and changes we face in order that people can make decisions and participate in change. Please click here to see what information is available on the Eco Island website and elsewhere, and what the ISP is proposing to do to improve our knowledge of the Island.
We will continually update the information that you will find on and through this website so keep checking.
